The Challenge

A drawer of retired phones and tablets had sat untouched for roughly two years. No one was certain what models were in the pile, what condition they were in, or what data still lived on them. Every phone and tablet is a data-bearing asset regardless of age — a device powered off in a drawer is not a disposition record, and a factory reset is not sanitization. Until each unit was wiped to a standard and logged, the exposure stayed open. The authority also had no visibility into whether the equipment held recoverable value, or whether clearing it would carry a cost.

Our Approach

arcITAD ran a Clean Sweep Buyout end to end and purchased the lot outright, with no pickup required — the lot was dropped off and moved through the facility one unit at a time. Intake logged every unit by model and serial or IMEI, with condition graded on arrival. Sanitization wiped each device to NIST SP 800-88 Clear, verified: 59 of 59 devices passed with zero exceptions. Settlement credited value recovery and reconciled the serialized record to a clean, audit-ready closeout.
